UCCA is China’s leading independent institution of contemporary art. It has since become a cultural landmark for Beijing, a conduit for international exchange, and an incubator for new talent.

On November 4 2018, UCCA held its annual gala, gathering over 650 art lovers and supporters to celebrate a new beginning.

The UCCA Gala was divided into five “acts,” inspired by Tao Yuanming’s fifth-century fable, “Peach Blossom Spring.” The animation "Dawn" was the fourth act, also the climax of the night. It exhibited the process of the sun rising with the phoenix - A recurrent motif will be the ancient Chinese saying “a glimmer through the willows,” echoing the Gala’s overarching theme of rebirth.
